Tax bands and insurance groups for Volkswagen

One factor that some insurers may look at is the insurance group of the vehicle you’d like covered. Insurance groups are bandings running from 1-50, that reflect the costs and risks associated with each model of car, therefore helping insurers to estimate the likelihood and scale of any potential claims.
There’s also a banding system applied when it comes to paying tax on your vehicle in the first year it’s registered. Known as Vehicle Excise Duty, this initial charge will be based upon your model’s observed CO2 emissions.
