What is legal expenses cover?
Legal Expenses is optional cover that provides legal support and advice when you need it the most.
Seeking legal advice can be stressful, but with our legal expenses cover, you’ll have peace of mind knowing we’ll provide you with up to £100,000 cover for legal costs to assist with a wide range of legal issues, as well as access to a 24-hour legal advice helpline which can provide advice on a range of personal legal matters.
Examples of when you could use the legal support and advice under the policy:
- A dispute with neighbours regarding boundaries, trespassing on your property, or related damage or nuisance
- To seek compensation for personal injury from an accident (but not a road traffic accident involving a vehicle owned or driven by you) that was caused by the fault or negligence of a third party
- A dispute with any goods or services which you have taken out a contract for, for example if you have had a new kitchen installed unsatisfactorily, or have purchased a faulty sofa
- A dispute with your employer, for example, unpaid wages or unfair dismissal from work
- To seek compensation for clinical negligence which caused you harm (wrong medication or treatment given, for example)
- To dispute a motoring offence (a speeding fine that you believe to be incorrect, for example)
Cover applies to you and all family members permanently living with you.
What’s not covered
- Let properties, second homes or holiday homes
- Claims where there's less than a 51% chance of success
- Any costs that haven't been agreed in advance
- Claims occurring within the first 180 days for nuisance or trespass disputes, or within the first 90 days for employment disputes will not be covered unless you held similar Legal Expenses cover for this amount of time immediately prior to purchasing your policy with Ageas
- Motoring offences related to drugs or alcohol, or where you are disqualified from driving or don't hold a licence
