Can I drive other cars?
Were you looking to discuss this for a new quote or an existing policy?
New quote - This can be found on your Quote Summary page, usually under ‘Your Policy Information’.
Existing policy - Driving other cars cover is not available to all customers. This is decided by our underwriting team, based on the details you enter on your quote. To check if you have this cover, please log in to your online account and check your Certificate of Motor Insurance. Section 5 will confirm if you are able to drive other cars or not; if this cover is available, it will be on a third party only basis. As this term is set by our underwriters, based on criteria such as your age and occupation, it is not an option to add this to the policy if you do not currently have this cover.
Do I need business use?
Business use is needed if you are travelling to more than one place of work.
When do I get a courtesy car?
A courtesy car is covered as standard in our policies. This will only be provided whilst your vehicle is being repaired by one of our approved repairers.
We also offer 'Replacement Car Cover', which provides a hire car for up to 14 continuous days if the car you have insured with is unrecoverable (for example, if it was stolen or written off). Our standard courtesy car is a small hatchback whereas our Replacement Car Cover will provide a similar vehicle to your own.
You will not need to add this as optional cover if you would only like to be covered with a courtesy car in the event of your car being repaired by one of our approved repairers.
What's a policy excess?
A policy excess is the amount you have to pay towards the cost of your claim. It is made up of a standard amount which you cannot change and a voluntary amount which you set yourself. Details of your policy excess can be found in your Statement of Fact, or as part of your quote .
Choosing a voluntary amount may reduce the cost of your premium, but you will have a higher excess to pay if you make a claim.
Am I covered for voluntary driving?
Voluntary work is work carried out by a person willingly without receiving any financial gain (except for mileage allowance). This is not something we need to record on your policy. If you receive a financial gain, please record this on your policy under the occupation section. If you are an existing customer, you can do this in your online account by following the steps below:
- Log in to your online account
- Click ‘Change policy details’
- Underneath ‘Need to change driver details?’ click ‘Edit’
- Input the date of the change and click ‘Continue’
- Insert your new details
- Once all the details are entered, click ‘Continue’
- Click ‘Save’ to exit or ‘Continue’ to purchase the change.
