Ageas enhances its fraud prevention with early adoption of advanced AI forensics tool

Ageas, one of the UK’s largest personal lines insurers, is also one of the first to implement FDS by DETECTsystem A/S to identify fraudulent activity in documents.

This cutting-edge tool uses advanced algorithms and machine learning to flag potentially fraudulent activity by identifying images and documents which have been manipulated. FDS is unique in that it runs more than 150 forensic checks across numerous file types, examining metadata, EXIF data, image pixels, prior version history on PDFs and more, all within seconds.

Ageas detects fraud through a combination of human intervention and automated checks. With the implementation of FDS, Ageas has enhanced its ability to detect fake documents. Using FDS we have identified an insurance certificate manipulated 63 times to create over 18 certificates to be reused, photo evidence taken days after the loss or accident photos taken before the start date of the policy. In addition to identifying fraudulent activity, the tool enables claims handlers to quickly verify documents’ validity, resulting in a faster claim resolution for genuine customers.

FDS is equipped to tackle the issue of shallow fakes and AI-generated fraudulent documents and images. It uses advanced algorithms to detect inconsistencies and manipulations in digital files, ensuring that even the most sophisticated fakes are found and flagged.

Katie Davies, Director of Underwriting Services and Fraud at Ageas, told us: "The implementation of FDS will streamline the claims process, making it faster and more efficient. Customers can expect quicker claim resolutions and a higher level of service, as the system helps to reduce fraud and ensure genuine claims are processed promptly. At Ageas, we are proud to be at the forefront of technological innovation in the fight against fraud, protecting our customers and providing the highest level of service."
