  • Sorting out travel insurance can be quick and easy when you know what you’re doing on holiday and what you need

1. Why should i take our travel insurance?

Travel insurance offers you financial protection in case anything goes wrong before or during your holiday.

If you lose your luggage on your travels or have to cancel your holiday due an unexpected illness, travel insurance could mean you won’t lose any money, as it can cover your costs.

Whether you’re travelling independently or with a big group, travel insurance provides the ultimate peace of mind. Allowing you to relax and enjoy your holiday without worry.

2. What does a travel insurance policy cover?

Most insurance policies cover:

  • Lost or stolen bags
  • Lost or stolen passports, travel documents and money
  • Emergency medical expenses – including the cost of treatment and getting you home (also known as repatriation)
  • Flight delays or cancellations caused by reasons outside of your control
  • Personal injury and cover for accidents or damage caused by you

3. What’s not covered with travel insurance?

As is the case with any type of insurance, not everything is covered under a standard travel insurance policy. Sometimes you might need to add on extra cover to your policy, depending on your needs.

A standard policy is unlikely to cover:
  • Incidents which specifically occur for a cruise
  • High-risk sports, Winter sports and adventure activities
  • Incidents that happen when you are under the influence of alcohol or drugs

But you may be able to add on cover, or find a specialist policy.

Travel insurance policies will not cover:
  • Travel to destinations against Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office advice
  • Changing your mind about travelling
  • Incidents related to alcohol or drug abuse

4. What types of travel insurance can I get?

There are different types of travel insurance policies depending on how you travel and what you get up to. These include:

  • Single trip cover for those taking just one trip. Suitable for individuals, couples or families.
  • Annual multi-trip cover – for those who travel more regularly with at least two holidays or business trips in 12 months. You pay once for 12 months’ cover. Suitable for individuals, couples or families.
  • Adventure travel insurance — perfect for those who like an adrenaline-filled holiday. This policy can include cover for high-risk activities, including extreme sports, water sports, winter sports and more.

5. When is the best time to buy travel insurance?

The ideal time to buy travel insurance is as soon as you book your holiday, hotel or flight or paid a deposit; ideally on the same day. That way, you could be covered if, for example, you need to cancel your trip for health reasons.1

6. How much does travel insurance cost?

The cost of your travel insurance depends on the type of policy, the travellers covered by the policy, declared medical conditions, where you’re going and the length of your holiday.

It will also be affected by the level of cover you choose. Ageas’ travel insurance offers three levels of cover– Silver, Gold or Platinum.
